My effort on the preparation of zoom teaching for a large year 1 class of 170 students was not in vain.
The students' teaching evaluation comments are encouraging.
I get used to classroom teaching but zoom teaching requires different teaching skill. I am glad to develop my own skills for zoom teaching.

Invited to give a short speech.
This is my 4th time of receiving the teaching excellence award in my career. But this time is quite special to me because the teaching performance is based on zoom teaching rather than conventional classroom face-to-face teaching.
My motto of teaching is “A good teacher is like a candle-it consumes itself to light the way for students”.
Two books influence my philosophy of education- (1) Tuesday with Morrie” and “啟導人師“.
These 3 photos show the HKUST 14th Congregation in 2006. The Hooding Ceremony is a special recognition for graduates receiving a Ph.D. degree. During the congregation, the supervisor and the Ph.D. graduate wear academic regalia (cap and gown).
The Ph.D. graduate (Dr. Daniel Tsang, the current professor in PolyU) received his hood from his supervisor (me). It symbolizes the successful transfer of knowledge from the supervisor to the student. It is a very meaningful and memorable moment in our life.
Perhaps I would say that the hooding ceremony is equally important as (if not more important than) the wedding ceremony.

The project for Engineers Without Boarder (EWB, 無國界工程師) in Myanmar has been cancelled this year due to COVID19. Hope we can go there next year!
We are supposed to help them build a simple drinking water treatment system because the current water that they are taking (as shown in the photo) is unacceptable
Today we had a webinar via zoom with the people in Myanmar. I really admire those young engineers, doing such meaningful engineering projects to assist people in need
After an intensive training course in early 2020, I passed the professional examination in Geotourism. I am now a qualified geo-tour guide （地質旅遊導賞員）! I hope to integrate my environmental knowledge into the geo-tour to make people understand our rocks in HK in various aspects. Of course, it is free.
